Friends,
How are you all? Looking forward to this fall weekend? I am; I’m heading back out to the North Fork for a few days trying to take advantage of these beautiful days.
Before we get to the Weekend Buzz – which includes a Smashed Burger Block Party, a super special Pancake Brunch, a wine takeover, and three ways to enjoy copious amounts of football and beer – I wanted to share a few events coming up that are not on weekends.
The Rockaway Hotel Hosts The Minnow at Galley Ho
The first is a cool collab happening next week at The Rockaway Hotel. On Sept 18th the hotel is hosting a dinner with the team from Minnow at The Galley Ho—one of my favorite spots on the North Fork, known for its gorgeous patio and sustainable seafood menu.
The one-night-only dinner celebrates Minnow owner Andrea Tese, a trailblazer in the dock-to-dish movement, who will be speaking on her sustainability practices and approach to responsible seafood sourcing. You’ll enjoy a Mediterranean-inspired menu featuring fresh fish caught the same day from Minnow’s pound traps—a historic, eco-friendly method that eliminates bycatch and helps protect local fish populations, offering a true taste of conscious cooking and coastal stewardship. Tickets are $125.
Eat more Filipino Food
The next is a series of events that are a perfect excuse to eat more Filipino food! Not sure if you all have been to Naks, the Filipino restaurant from the Unapologetic Foods team (Semma, Adda, Masalawala, Rowdy Rooster) helmed by Executive Chef Eric Valdez? It’s one of my favorite restaurants of late, truly an immersive journey into this vibrant Asian cuisine that leans Spanish, you know, thanks to its colonial rule over the archipelago.
They have teamed up with Resy to kick off a Filipino Chef Series spotlighting culinary talents from across the US and the Philippines. Chefs Carlo Lamagna (Magna), Stephan Duhesme (Metiz), and Tara Monosod (Animea) will join Chef Eric Valdez at Naks for special Sunday brunches and Monday dinners.
The series kicks off with Chef Carlo on September 14th and 15th, followed by Chef Stephan on October 19th and 20th, and December 6th and 7th with Chef Tara. Each chef brings their own unique take on Filipino cuisine, making every event a truly one of a kind experience. Tickets are open now for the first two events and can be found on Resy.
And now, your Weekend Buzz! Remember, upgrading your subscription gets you access to tickets to the Oyster 101 Party at The Yacht Club I am hosting with The Yacht Club’s Director of Oysters Lars Viola and Oyster Master Guild’s Julie Qiu, and a dedicated Restaurant Help Line, plus you’re supporting my work! What’s better than that?
