James Beard Foundation Opens Market 57 and Platform at Pier 57
Yesterday I had a chance to tour the James Beard Foundation’s culinary spaces at Pier 57, opening April 1st: Platform, its gorgeous contemporary culinary events space, and Market 57, a sprawling food hall committed to championing the Good Food For Good™ mission to promote a more equitable industry.
If you tuned into IG Live yesterday, you were on hand to meet some of the 12 talented vendors with stalls at the Market, including Mijo (Fany Gerson’s Taco joint!) Lolo, Malai, Local Roots, Zaab Zaab, The Good Batch, Ammi, The Galley by Lobster Place, the Mothershuckers (oysters baby!), and an incubator space for James Beard Fellows.
My friend Kiri Tanenbaum was charged with curating the culinary events at Platform, and I have to say, she’s outdone herself. In April, you can dine with Kwame Onwuachi, attend a Mexican Seder with Fany Gerson and her husband Danny Ortiz de Montellano, get inspired by a Panel Discussion titled “Restaurants that Changed New York,” hang out with the team behind Sisting House, feast on dishes from Chintan Pandya and restaurateur Roni Mazumdar’s Unapologetic Foods, spend a night in the North Fork on the Hudson with John Fraser, and so much more. There’s even a Kids Cooking Class on April 15th. Check out their events calendar here. I’ll be spending a lot of Spring Break there with my kids for sure, so I hope to see you there!
