If you’ve got a free evening coming up (maybe tonight?), head over to Three Maples, an elevated beer and burger spot from the beloved team behind Landhaus—the Smorgasburg and Berg’n favorite. It opens today (Wednesday, January 11th) in Bed-Stuy, at 1452 Fulton Street.
The chefs and partners, Michael Felix, Maria Dela Cruz, and Matthew Lief, have been cooking together for years since they met at The Pierre. In 2011, they launched Landhaus at Smorgasburg in 2011, and continued their pop up at The Woods, in Park Slope on Union Street, and at Berg’n, earning a following for their maple glazed, thick-cut bacon on a stick.
Now comes their first brick and mortar, Three Maples, a neighborhood bar with a small, unfussy but utterly appealing menu that is making my stomach growl as I write this. Small plates include a creamy sip made from elote (honestly what’s better?), and the return of their signature thick cut bacon, glazed with Berkshire maple syrup.
There’s a big fat house burger, made with a custom short rib blend from Pat LaFrieda (or plant-based patty); a spicy fried chicken sandwich; and fish and chips, each served with crispy fries or a side salad. There are a couple of main course salads, and some nice sides ideal for vegetarians: charred baby broccoli with garlic confit; blistered shishito peppers with yuzu vinaigrette; and yes, more fries, served with chipotle mayo and dill ranch sauce for dipping. (If you tag them on Instagram you get free fries so go do it!)
Seven gorgeous cocktails are served at the bar, inspired by classics and created by friend of the team, Jeff Kay, a veteran of The Astor Room and Sushi Samba. The house specialty cocktail is the Triple M, with brown butter washed bourbon, Berkshire maple syrup, and orange bitters. There’s also a small list of approachable, natural wines at affordable price points, and ten craft beers from mostly from NY on tap.
They’ve got a great Happy Hour (4-6pm) where you can grab a burger and a draft beer for $15; cocktails are priced at $10; wine by the glass is $10; and draft beers are $1 off.
Check it out and let me know what you think!
Three Maples is first come, first serve, and open Wednesday - Sunday for happy hour and dinner.
