This is Halloween, this is Halloween!
A special edition of The Strong Buzz in honor of spooky season.
Friends,
We’ve come to that time of year where fun-size candy bars will fill your house, to be adored and then ignored by your children, and left for you to mindlessly consume while they sleep. (Not that I’ve ever done that.) Yes, we have arrived at Halloween.
Time to dress up! Who’s going as Taylor and Travis? Hailey Bieber and Justin Bieber at Rhode x Krispy Kreme? Gwyneth Paltrow at her ski-collision trial? (You need to check out NY Magazine’s Strategist column for more amazing ideas).
Time to eat mass-produced chocolate that tasted a lot better 40 years ago (but that we’ll eat it anyway), to watch The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown, and shuffle your kids through fallen leaves at dusk while dressed as an exhausted vampire witch drinking from a flask (you’ve just had the first look at my costume).
My childhood memories of Halloween take me back to Forest Hills, where I dressed up as Batman (I loved Adam West), wearing a black garbage bag that my Bibi transformed into a cape, and wandering around the Gardens with my brother, my mom, and my aunt Janet, until we were freezing, only to come home and be told we could not eat the candy because of the razor blades that might be inside of it. Ah the 70s! Good times.
Here in Carroll Gardens I’ll be wandering the streets with Eiji and Sam, then giving out Trader Joes chocolate bars (so good) and no doubt eating my kids stash of candy once they go to sleep.
There are some great events happening this weekend and through Halloween, including a vintage pop up, a benefit for bats and 826NYC, and many ghoulish excuses to eat and drink if you’re up for some adult celebrating.
Happy Halloween to all — and here’s to some simple enjoyment with your kids. The world is taking a lot out of us right now. xoxo
