Sunken Sundays, Books for Pickles, and an Ice Rink under the Brooklyn Bridge
Your Thanksgiving Weekend Buzz is here!
Hello my friends,
It seems that Thanksgiving is tomorrow! How are you all doing? Perhaps you’re in frenzied prep mode, hands deep in the cavity of a brining bird, or dicing, mincing, chopping and whisking your way through prepping your feast? Or are you in line at Trader Joe’s (like me) because even though you brought your list on Monday you managed to forget the canned pumpkin? Or perhaps you’re packing up to go somewhere far away, where others will cook for you? Nice.
As for me, I’ve got the Indigo Girls on and I’m prepping and cooking my usual Turkey and Persian food feast for my kids and my mom and Craig. Tomorrow morning I’m planning to meet Dana and Leanne in the morning to “run” the Turkey Trot in Prospect Park. (Sara Kate, will you be there too?!) And I’m very disappointed that we have to wait until next week for the finale of The Golden Bachelor.
Whatever your plans, I hope you are all practicing your deep breathing for conversations with far flung relatives that start with “Honey, good to see you! But your lip needs a wax and it seems you did gain that weight back!, or “Are you seeing anyone nice this year?” or “I hope Trump comes back he’s what this country needs now more than ever!“ Yes practice that deep breathing, meditate, load up on Xanax, and consider a nice breakfast wine; I find a rosé in a coffee cup works well.
At the end of the day though, I hope you can slow down a little and take a moment of gratitude for yourself; for putting one foot in front of the other during this trying year, and for making a world where you and yours feel loved and seen and safe. I am grateful to you all you for reading, for being here every week, and for giving for my words a place to land.
