I know it’s Monday, but why not think about the weekend now? I’ve got two delicious ways to fill your bellies this Saturday April 15th.
James Beard Nominee Chef Maria Grubb is cooking dinner for you!
The Lower East Side dinner salon Chef's Dinner Series is hosting a series of chefs from Puerto Rico and this Saturday they’ve got dinner from award-winning Chef Maria Grubb; nominated in 2019 for a James Beard Award in recognition of her excellence in the kitchen.
A native of San Juan, Chef Grubb graduated from the French Culinary Institute in New York City where she received the prestigious Outstanding Service Award. Maria then worked under James Beard-award winner Chef Gabriel Kreuther at The Modern, a 3-Star recipient from The New York Times and a Michelin star awardee. She then went on to open NYC stalwarts, Bar Basque and Maialino.
In 2019, Chef María became the first female in Puerto Rico’s food industry to be nominated for the James Beard Award for Best Chef. She was also selected by Food & Wine Magazine as one of the chefs leading Puerto Rico’s current culinary renaissance.
If you’ve not been to Chef's Dinner Table, you must go. It’s a truly unique New York experience, a private culinary salon tucked away in a stunning downtown loft offering the ultimate experience in luxury private dining.
I hope you’ll be able to join them at this special evening of fine dining and intimate conversation about Puerto Rico’s exceptional cuisine and cocktails. Have a look at her menu below!

Your Saturday Bread
I can’t believe I am writing yet a third post about bread on Passover. (See here and here for the other two.) I really have to do some extra atoning to do on Yom Kippur. Noted.
So, back to the chametz. Brooklyn’s As You Are, the gorgeous restaurant at Ace Hotel Brooklyn, is rolling out a new offering called Saturday Bread. You can now order ahead online for Pastry Chef Danny Alvarez’s signature focaccias, cinnamon rolls and sourdough English muffins, and they’ll have it all freshly baked and packed up for you just in time for the weekend. You’ve just won parent of the year. It’s that easy.
You can easily place your weekly orders for focaccia ($6-$8), cinnamon buns ($24) and English Muffins ($12) by visiting As You Are, and clicking on the “Saturday Bread” link on the home page. All orders must be made by Friday afternoon at the latest for Saturday pickup the next day.
