Friends,
Here we are in September. Fall Previews are out, Labor Day is in the rear view, and the back to school nerves are upon us. Even as a 50-something mom I feel it: the loss of the laziness of summer, the angst and the agita of change, the stomach-sinking start of a new year. And it feels harder this year than others; my older kid is heading into senior year of high school, and we are into the college application process, and my younger one is starting his last year of middle school, and we are making high school lists. Time feels like a slingshot, ready to rocket me and the kids into another stratosphere of life. It’s a kind of grief, I think, all of this change. It’s a lot.
But, then I think, hold on a minute, Andrea. Life is full of change, and at least these are good changes. And Fall is pretty great once you get past the anxiety of real life starting up again. There is the promise of apple picking and crimson leaves underfoot, the joy of poking fun at all manner pumpkin latte-infused foods, the relief of cooler weather, the comfort of cozy dinners and cuddling under the blanket with the kids and watching Charlie Brown get a rock. And my kids have so many adventures ahead of them, and for now, I am a part of them, or at least a part of helping them reach them. And so I tell myself, it’s okay to feel overwhelmed and anxious about all the changes coming. What would life be without some measure of fear and hesitation?
Now, enough of my analysis of self, and onto the point of this post! Which is that just in time for Back to School, I’ve got some news to share, particularly if this time of year is giving you a urge to learn something new.
