Friends,
The last official weekend of summer is here! Many of you are probably heading out East or up north to the Catskills or Hudson. I’ll be out in Greenport for most of the weekend with the kids – we’ve got scones at Aldo’s Coffee on the menu and dinners planned at Little Creek Oysters in their new digs on Carpenter Street, and out on Shelter Island at Léon 1909 and up in New Suffolk The Minnow at Galley Ho, another local fave. If you’re sticking around town, I have a few fun events that will get you out to the beach and keep you in that soft summer state of mind, plus news of this amazing collab next week!
Comal x Lucho Martinez
While not a weekend event, I wanted to share that the folks at Comal are kicking off Fall with a dinner event with Lucho Martinez, a celebrated chef from Mexico City, owner chef of Ultramarinos, Em, and Martinez.
If you haven’t been to Comal yet, it’s a restaurant inspired by the cuisine and dynamic hospitality scene of Mexico City that opened earlier this summer on the Lower East Side, in the former Gem wine space at 116 Forsyth Street.
Owner Chef Gaz Herbert, formerly of London’s River Cafe and Ikoyi, and Midtown restaurant Jupiter, was born in Cuernavaca, has long dreamed of opening a restaurant devoted to the cuisine, rhythms and energy found in Mexico City. Also in the kitchen is Scott McKay, who has worked at Atomix and Acru in New York, as well as Sweden’s acclaimed Fäviken and Ikoyi in London. So a lot of talent there and now they’re bringing in even more with this dinner with Lucho. Tasting menu tickets are $135 per person ++, and there will be two nights – 9/3 and 9/4 with reservations on Resy for Wednesday and Thursday.
