A Beautiful New Burger, A Pop Up Called Pancakes, and a Houseman Collab
Your Weekend Buzz is here.
Friends,
There’s a new burger in town, pictured below, and isn’t it magnificent? Big and brawny, far from a smash and more of a two-hander in the style of Red Hook Tavern burger or the one at Raoul’s, this beauty is only available at the bar (but unlike Raoul’s they do make more than 12 a night). For more on this stunning burger, read on in The Weekend Buzz, below!
But before we get there, there's a new fresh pasta shop that just opened in Carroll Gardens that I want to make sure gets on your radar. It’s called Tortelli and it comes from chef Sivia Barban and the folks behind MozzLab, LaRina and Briscola. The idea at this sweet and snug little neighborhood store is to offer fresh handmade pasta and Italian provisions – whatever you might need to make a nice bowl of pasta at home – several kinds of hand-rolled (and stuffed) pasta, gorgeous stewed tomatoes, heirloom tomato sugo, freshly made (delicious!) basil pesto, several kinds of cheese – burrata, mozzarella, pecorino - plus homemade focaccia, olive oil, vinegar, you get the idea.
The shop is about the square footage of a twin-sized bed, but they’re even doing some cooking in there. On a little induction burner they are preparing fresh pasta to eat outside on one of their sidewalk tables with a glass of wine. The menu is affordable (all pastas are under $20), simple, and delicious – an easy dinner after work solo or with your special someone, or with the kids before they get hangry.
They’re doing your choice of pasta – fresh strands of spaghetti, ribbons of tagliatelle, or their signature stuffed and pinched tortelli (a more ample, slightly pudgy version of tortellini) with pesto, butter and sage, or a rich Sunday ragu (served daily). There’s also a nice antipasti plate, a green salad with good vinegar, and a tiramisu made in house. It’s simple and lovely. Check it out.
Tortelli is located at 359 Sackett Street, just off Smith Street, (917) 526-1650
