Outfitted as a postal facility where lost parcels wind up, Dead Letter No.9 is quite a rare combination of theater, nightlife, and dining, a modern experiential salon in Williamsburg from award-winning theatrical creators ROLL THE BONES and an all-star team that includes alumni of Sleep No More.
As you might expect, Dead Letter No. 9 is a free roam immersive experience that centers guided conversation among performers and audience members alike, all inside an exquisitely transformed postal facility. Every 20 minutes, eight new diners enter the conversation, “together exploring astonishingly transportive environments, and learning just a little bit more about what it is to be human.,” according to a spokesperson.
The theatrical team is impressive; it includes Taylor Myers (RTB, Sleep No More, Then She Fell, Eschaton, Hamlet in the Golden Vale, Galleria Esperienza), Michael Ryterband (Galleria Esperienza, NY Times, Surface), Claire Karoff (Sleep No More NYC and Shanghai), award-winning experiential production agency, The Umbrella, and award-winning theatrical creators, ROLL THE BONES.
This handful of super-talented people have teamed up with chef Josh Cohen (Lilia, Chez Ma Tante) and Mark Rancourt (Top Quality, Extra Fancy) to do the Food and Beverage, a menu inspired by Post Office cafeteria lunches and the venue’s immersive spaces.
What this somewhat unusual vision translates to is quite appealing, actually: savory snacks like N.C. Blister-Fried Peanuts (served in individual jars from the famous First United Methodist Church), Smoked Trout Dip with Everything Pretzel Bread (ACME Smoked Fish), and NOLA Bourgeois Beef Jerky from the famed meat market. Also, Fried Chicken Sliders with coleslaw and hot honey on a King’s Hawaiian roll), Vegan Chili with Yankee Cornbread, and warm Churros with Milk Jam.
At the bar you’ll find classic cocktails that take a playful detour into the present, like the Midori’s Hour, a fusion of a Midori Sour with a Pisco Sour, blending various melon liqueurs, falernum, and Chilean pisco, and The Fancy French Accent, a revamped French Martini where the requisite berry liqueur and pineapple juice find gin as the new base, along with a Lativan herbal currant liqueur, and a pine liqueur from the Alps.
Find a schedule of performances on their website HERE. Dead Letter 9 is located at 63 Grand Street in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
I was wondering what that was when I passed it yesterday; it used to be Croxley's Ale House, a wonderful purveyor of delicious wings. This is awesome!
Oooo this sounds excellent and right up my alley. Always love their experiences. Hope it extends to February when I'm back!
