Brooklyn gets more cheese and more Poppy's!
Two great little openings that will make your weekend.
Poppy’s Brooklyn Heights is Open!
Friends,
You may remember I broke the story about a second location of Poppy’s opening in Brooklyn Heights? Well this week it happened! Yay for Jamie Erickson!
Her second location of Poppy’s opened November 7th in Brooklyn Heights in the former Cranberry’s space. Honestly, I think it’s already a neighborhood fave. And it’s not hard to understand why: she’s got all your favorites in stock: lemon poppyseed loaf, overstuffed biscuit sandwiches, cardamom coffee cake, seasonal bundts, and easy and delicious lunch and dinner solutions: rotisserie chicken, soups, and salads, and more. There’s also local produce, soft amorous cheeses, gorgeous kitchenware, and beautiful hostess gifts from dark chocolate to fancy dates covered in chocolate.
“The opening of Poppy’s Brooklyn Heights is the culmination of the many pandemic pivots. It’s the understanding that after 10 years in business— nourishing community is our business,” Jamie wrote on Insta. “I’m so unbelievably proud of the team we have built, for the love that we pour into every single pastry we make, sandwich prepared, soup seasoned and espresso executed, and catering meal that goes out our door. This is just the beginning of a whole new decade for Poppy’s thanks to the support of our community, customers + incredible vendors. We can’t wait to get rooted in a new neighborhood and spread joy + the simple pleasure of nourishing you all on a daily basis.”
See you there!
Poppy’s Brooklyn Heights is located at 48 Henry St, Brooklyn Heights; Hours: Tues-Sun 8am-7pm
The Cheese Plate
The Cheese Plate has opened on Court Street, a welcome addition since the dearly departed Stinky. It comes to us from the Nawaz family: Arif (dad) and his two sons Danny and Shahab. Arif, who spent 30 years in specialty foods at Balducci’s and Fairway, opened the first Cheese Plate in Park Slope during the pandemic and his two sons joined him, leaving assorted roles in finance for wheels of wonderful whey.
The store is bright and cheerful, full of cheese (and generous samples) from around the globe, with a focus on French, Italian, Dutch and US curds. They’ve got everything you need to make your best cheese board: crackers, dried fruit, charcuterie, preserves, and nuts. They’ve also got a nice selection of Turkish Delight, baklava and halvah, as well as morning pastries and breads, cakes, muffins, croissants, and more. They’ll be adding more sandwiches and prepared foods after holiday season catering too. They are up for catering your party too!
The Cheese Plate Carroll Gardens is located at 323 Court St, corner of Sackett Street in Brooklyn.
